She wishes it weren’t so.

She will miss waking next to his warm, lean body,

the smell of his cologne,

his contented sigh after his first sip of morning coffee.

She wishes it weren’t so.

She will miss his kind, affectionate, generous, spirit,

and the hollow against his shoulder,

that offers its nesting comfort.

She wishes it weren’t so.

She wishes he understood her addiction,

her ache,

her craving.

She wishes he would place the black sash across her eyes,

whisper his fingertips down her arm,

and land his hot, hard palm,

against her perfectly wonderful posterior.

It is not in him.

She wishes it weren’t so,

but they are oil and water.
