Whatever your beliefs, leanings or political loyalties lie, when I saw these photographs I absolutely had to share them. Am I a fan of animals in the military? No, but I am a huge animal nut, and these brought tears to my eyes. Not just because these four-legged heroes are in danger, but because they so clearly demonstrate their unsurpassed devotion and love. Thank you, you beautiful creatures, for all you give us, from guide dogs, to companion animals, to law enforcement – and of course, for this.
There are about ten more, but it seemed this was enough.
If requested, I’ll post the rest.

These are quite lovely, and yes animals are truly beautiful creatures and often underrated in scope and gesture.
I have heard that often when a tour ends for the soldiers as in the pictures above, the animals will often continue in service. And the reverence for these unique service animals is comparable to their human counterpart during and after as veterans of peace keeping missions throughout the world.
Thanks for sharing these Maggie.
Yes, Joseph, and I’ve read and seen televised stories of these amazing canines, where the soldiers have brought them home to share their lives. It all kind of overwhelms me, and as I look at my sweet little terrier laying next to me, my heart is filled with love for him. I know he would walk through fire for me, and I would do the same for him. These battle heroes pictured above, go so far beyond the call of their duty, and so much as asked of them, I wish I could something for them in return. I think, in the end, the best we can do to honor them is to treat all the animals with whom we come in contact, with great kindness and generosity.
This picture with the lab? curled up by the man with the Redskins blanket caused me to tear up…I agree, they are incredibly wonderful creatures. My own beloved puppy has helped me keep my sanity more than once 🙂
I had exactly the same reaction! It brought so clear how far away from home they are and much in need of each other they are.
Oh my gosh Sharron, isn’t that the truth? I always feel so blessed when I come home to my precious pup.
